Ushuaia, Argentina

The only place farther south is Antarctica, making Ushuaia, Argentina, the last populated place at the world’s end. Azamara uses this port as a popular overnight destination. Frequent overnight stays are our favorite aspect of any Azamara Cruise, and we cannot stress enough that for the value, Azamara’s destination immersion is unrivaled.

The history of Ushuaia is fascinating. Explorers and navigators have gathered here for centuries. Some were destined to explore the cold wastes of Antarctica, some attempted to circumnavigate the globe, and some to conquer the jagged mountains of nearby Patagonia and the southern Andes.

Ushuaia was once a penal colony called El Presidio. The stories of the inhabitants,  adventurers, and the rich trade history are displayed at El Museo Maritimo and Museo del Presidio. For an extra special experience, Azamara offers an optional excursion to get an aerial view of Torres del Paine National park. The awe-inspiring views of jagged snow-capped mountains and vast glacial landscape cannot be understated.

The Strait of Magellan

Azamara departs Ushuaia via the Beagle Channel and enters the Strait of Magellan, the gateway to the Chilean Fjords and the southernmost tip of the Andes. Marvel at the labyrinthian glacial topography as you cruise through the milky blue waters, past towering walls of ice and granite. Along the way, you pass the 41 lighthouses that guide the way.

Azamara ties the entire experience of sailing to the destinations they visit. Their ships are small, so they can get you closer. The onboard experience leans on locally sourced food, wine, and interaction with local experts between ports. Finally, Azamazing Evenings are signature cultural events that bring guests an exclusive local experience on every cruise. All of these aspects combine to make Azamara an incredible value for travelers that like to really get their hands on a destination.
