Ship Features

MS Roald Amundsen is one of two ships to feature hybrid propulsion systems that reduce the expedition vessel’s carbon footprint by increasing fuel efficiency. As a result, Hurtigruten will reduce CO2 emissions by 20 percent.

The ship’s interior is designed to showcase the natural materials of Scandinavia. Oak, birch, and wool adorn each cabin and public space. MS Roald Amundsen’s stylish staterooms are outward-facing, and 50% feature private balconies. Aft-facing suites even have private jacuzzis on their terraces.

Public Spaces

There are four restaurants onboard. Restaurant Aune, Restaurant Fredheim, Restaurant Lindstrom. Each restaurant bears the name of prominent Scandinavian explorers except Restaurant Fredheim, which bears the name of a historic hunting station. 

Guests can relax and socialize in the Explorer Lounge. While there, you can enjoy a cocktail from the bar and gaze through the floor-to-ceiling windows at the scenic polar landscape.

One of the most striking features of the ship is the two-level observation deck. MS Roald Amundsen also features a state-of-the-art science center. Hurtigruten maintains the importance of fostering conservation efforts and scientific research on their voyages. The observation deck is a perfect place to view polar wildlife, while the science center will help guests understand the habitats they inhabit. 

The library onboard is brimming with literature about the poles and exploration. The space is warm and inviting, making for a cozy spot onboard to curl up with a good book between shore landings.

Hurtigruten has added two hot tubs and an infinity pool facing directly off of the aft or rear portion of the ship for spectacular views and the incredible experience that comes with swimming while visiting the poles. The ship also features an expansive and well-equipped fitness center. The spa and wellness center offers a la carte treatments and a sauna with one of the best views in all of cruising.
