In 2020 Hurtigruten launched the MS Fridtjof Nansen and with it, they created an impressive top suite category. The Extra Large Suite with a private balcony may sound understated, but it should be at the top of your list when planning your cruise on Hurtigruten’s new flagship. Come inside and tour the best seats in the house on this expedition heavy-hitter.

Design

Hurtigruten set out to showcase their Norwegian pride with their newest ship. Not only did they name the ship after their most notable explorers and national heroes, but they also used it as an opportunity to showcase Scandinavian design and materials.

No accommodation showcases these touches better than these Extra Large Suites. Materials like oak, granite, birch, and wool are on display throughout this large corner suite offering guests premium expedition comfort. The interior design of the room features a cool grey and taupe color palette with sleek contemporary lighting and mid-century modern furniture. The neutral tones draw the occupants’ eyes outward through our favorite feature of the suite, the vaulted windows that provide expansive exterior views of the sky and scenery. If you are lucky enough to travel in these suites, we can’t think of a cozier place to watch the northern lights than the day bed which sits beneath these windows.

There are two of these suites and they are located in the forward area of deck seven overlooking the forward observation deck one floor below. The private balcony in each suite has unobstructed ocean views facing off of the side of the ship. They offer a separate bedroom and living area that accommodates flexible sleeping arrangements for four. There is a spacious restroom with granite and marble floors and counters.
