Landmarks

Buenos Aires is a popular departure port for South American Cruise itineraries, which is perfect because a town with this much to offer can’t be experienced in a single day. We recommend adding an extra two days before or after your cruise to see it all at your own pace.

The easiest way to see all the landmarks is to book a hop-on, hop-off tour. You can board these tours at a famous local landmark, El Nueva de Julio. It’s the giant obelisk in El Plaza De Mayo. You can’t miss it. This monument commemorates the fourth centennial.

Casa Rosada is the presidential palace of Argentina. The “Rose House” houses the Hall of Busts, where you can view the visages of former presidents. The Salon Blanco, The Hall of Bicentennial Patriots of Latin America, and many more areas of this elaborate palace make for excellent photo opportunities.

Head over to La Boca, a pedestrian-friendly urban arts district. Tour the local galleries and admire Argentina’s best murals and street art. It’s a great place to grab a drink or a snack as you explore.

The next stop you don’t want to miss is La Recoleta. This affluent neighborhood is famous for its Parisian-style homes,  former palaces, and chic boutiques. The main attraction in this area is La Recoleta Cemetery, where prominent Argentinians lay entombed in elegant mausoleums.

Restaurants

No visit to Buenos Aires is complete without experiencing the local cuisine. The streets of Argentina’s capitol are home to some of the best dining in Latin America. The culinary experiences available rival the best food towns in Europe. Here is a list of our recommendations.

Don Julio– This traditional Parilla restaurant requires a reservation. Your Luxury Cruise Connections concierge will be happy to assist you in getting one. Argentina famously serves terrific beef, and Don Julio’s is the perfect place to pair your favorite cuts with the nation’s most famous red wine,  Malbec.

Mishiguene– Once featured on Netflix’s Somebody Feed Phil, this contemporary Jewish cuisine is the talk of the town. The global dispersion of the Jewish people has resulted in a myriad of regional culinary influences. Mishiguene celebrates these “lost recipes” on unique menus designed by chef Thomas Kalika.

El Preferido de Palermo– Argentinian cuisine is heavily influenced by the Italian immigrant populations calling the nation home. El Preferido de Palermo is known to serve the best Milanese in town. A separate concept from their sister restaurant, Don Julio, but under the same ownership. As such, both restaurants feature incredible, privately-sourced tomatoes. Try them for yourself, and you will understand why we love them.

Pizzeria Guerrin- This lively restaurant serves the best Pizza in Buenos Aires. They have been open since 1932. It is an excellent stop for late-night eats.
