If you are looking for dramatic scenery, fascinating history, and far-off destinations, look no further than Azamara. During the early months of every year, Azamara offers a destination-intensive journey from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to the Chilean Fjords. Come along as we share our favorite stops on this remarkable journey.
Punta Del Este, Uruguay
This popular beach and cultural destination is one of Azamara’s first stops. Punta Del Este is beloved for its artsy vibe. Modern Latin American Art is showcased at the Ralli Museum. The Paseo de Las Americas, a statue and installation art open-air gallery, is another popular landmark for photographers and officianados.Â
The glamorous boutiques near the waterfront are home to the works of rising local designers and are a popular shopping destination for cruisers.
Port Stanley, Falkland Islands
Azamara brings guests to Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands for a wildlife encounter. Several species of Penguins, including King, Gentoo, Magellanic, and Rockhoppers all call this island home. Make sure to charge your camera for a photo opportunity with these curious denizens of the southern hemisphere.
Ushuaia, Argentina
The only place farther south is Antarctica, making Ushuaia, Argentina, the last populated place at the world’s end. Azamara uses this port as a popular overnight destination. Frequent overnight stays are our favorite aspect of any Azamara Cruise, and we cannot stress enough that for the value, Azamara’s destination immersion is unrivaled.
The history of Ushuaia is fascinating. Explorers and navigators have gathered here for centuries. Some were destined to explore the cold wastes of Antarctica, some attempted to circumnavigate the globe, and some to conquer the jagged mountains of nearby Patagonia and the southern Andes.
Ushuaia was once a penal colony called El Presidio. The stories of the inhabitants, adventurers, and the rich trade history are displayed at El Museo Maritimo and Museo del Presidio. For an extra special experience, Azamara offers an optional excursion to get an aerial view of Torres del Paine National park. The awe-inspiring views of jagged snow-capped mountains and vast glacial landscape cannot be understated.
The Strait of Magellan
Azamara departs Ushuaia via the Beagle Channel and enters the Strait of Magellan, the gateway to the Chilean Fjords and the southernmost tip of the Andes. Marvel at the labyrinthian glacial topography as you cruise through the milky blue waters, past towering walls of ice and granite. Along the way, you pass the 41 lighthouses that guide the way.
Puerto Montt, Chile
This urban oasis is in the northern portion of Chilean Patagonia and provides an excellent mix of shopping, scenic exploration, and sightseeing. Local landmarks include Petrohue Falls, Osorno Volcano, and nearby glacial lakes. Or– stay in town and explore the works of local artisans and stock up on the famous alpaca wool products. Puerto Montt is an excellent destination to sample Chilean wine and local seafood.
Azamara ties the entire experience of sailing to the destinations they visit. Their ships are small, so they can get you closer. The onboard experience leans on locally sourced food, wine, and interaction with local experts between ports. Finally, Azamazing Evenings are signature cultural events that bring guests an exclusive local experience on every cruise. All of these aspects combine to make Azamara an incredible value for travelers that like to really get their hands on a destination.
