Silversea Cruises Completes Steel-Cutting Ceremony for Silver Ray

Quiz: Are you a true luxury cruise connoisseur?

Silversea has officially begun construction of Silver Ray, their second Nova-Class ship. The traditional steel-cutting ceremony was held at the Meyer Warft shipyard in Germany on November 23rd, 2022. Silversea Cruises intends to launch the new ship in the summer of 2024, with a maiden itinerary sailing from Venice. Silver Ray will join Silver Nova, its sister ship, as one of the market’s most environmentally friendly cruise ships.

Silver Ray and Silver Nova will be the world’s first low-emissions cruise ships due to the incorporation of liquid natural gas engines. The Nova-Class also features fuel-cell technology that neutralizes local emissions while in port.

Silver Nova and Silver Ray will feature Silversea’s new asymmetrical design and innovative horizontal layout allowing for larger suites and public spaces and creating incredible exterior views.

The news of Silver Ray’s steel-cutting was slightly dampened by a delay to Silver Nova’s launch date, which is now scheduled for August 14th, 2023. Silversea Cruises has extended a future cruise credit of 100% of booked value and an additional 10% discount to the affected guests.

As we approach the launch of the first Nova-Class ship, we expect to learn much about these excellent new ships. Keep reading our blog for more updates, and remember to follow us on social media.
