Barbara Muckermann named Silversea Cruises’ President and CEO

Big changes have been announced at the highest level of Silversea Cruises’ management structure. As of January 1st, 2023, current president and CEO Roberto Martinoli will assume a senior advisory role for Royal Caribbean Group LTD. President Jason Liberty. He will be succeeded by the current Chief Commercial Officer, Barbara Muckermann.

Jason Liberty said this of Martinoli’s tenure and the recent changes to senior leadership “Roberto has built Silversea Cruises into the category leader that it is today, 11 ships strong with more on the way, He is one of the most innovative and knowledgeable leaders in the maritime industry. As senior advisor, Roberto will continue to provide strategic guidance that further cements Royal Caribbean Group’s status as a leader in the travel and hospitality industry. Barbara is the ideal executive to succeed Roberto. Her global perspective and team-first leadership style are a recipe for success for both the Silversea Cruises brand and Royal Caribbean Group.”

While at the helm for Silversea, Martinoli oversaw the growth of the fleet to 11 ships, and the company will soon welcome Silver Nova and Silver Ray, the first two ships of a brand-new class. In addition to the Nova Class ships, Martinoli was instrumental in the acquisition of the Silver Endeavour, the former Crystal Cruises Expedition Ship. The Silver Endeavour represents a massive leap forward in the brand’s substantial expedition offerings.

His successor, Barbara Muckermann brings 25 years of experience. She has been with Silversea since 2001, holding multiple roles with the cruise line during her extensive career. As the current Chief Commercial Officer, Barbara oversees revenue management, marketing, sales, and customer relations. 

As the second woman to lead a Royal Caribbean Group Brand, joining Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, who heads Celebrity Cruises. Muckermann said regarding her promotion, “This is an exciting moment for Silversea as we continue to add new ships and return to the Asia market, I am thrilled to build on our achievements under Roberto and focus on growth in the years ahead.”
