Viking uses the same design for all its ocean ships. By adopting this strategy, Viking can control the quality of the guests’ experience onboard their ships fleetwide and guests never have to choose between the best ship and their desired destination. To successfully “pull off” such a bold strategy, Viking had to get the design right on the first try. Well, nine ships later, Viking is a household name in oceangoing cruises and we’re here to take you through these wonderful ships to show you what makes them so unique.
Design
Each of Viking Ocean Cruise’s ships hosts 930 guests in 464 suites and staterooms. All of the accommodations feature private balconies and are spread across nine decks. The ships are scaled to be the perfect size to maximize space onboard while still being able to access smaller ports.
The ships use sleek Scandinavian design and stylish mid-century modern interior decor, staying true to the brand’s Norwegian roots. There are a theater and two cinemas for guests to enjoy onboard entertainment, as well as multiple bars, restaurants, and a world-class spa whose facilities are open to guests at no additional charge.
There are also two pools onboard. The main pool features a retractable roof to enjoy swimming no matter what the weather is and a rear-facing infinity pool.
Suites and Staterooms
As mentioned, each vessel has 460 suites and staterooms, all of which have balconies. Outward-facing views are a vital component of Viking’s designs, and you will find floor-to-ceiling windows for panoramic views throughout the suites and public areas onboard.
The cavernous Owner’s Suites are the most spacious and prized accommodations onboard and come with a slew of additional amenities. The other suites guests will be able to choose from are the midsized penthouse junior suites and the roomy Explorer’s Suites with wrap-around terraces. Viking’s suites range from 405 to 1500 square feet. The standard accommodations range from the larger 340-square-foot penthouse verandas to the 270-square-foot Deluxe and Standard Veranda rooms. Staterooms are categorized and priced based on size, location, and additional amenities.
Dining
There is six dining experiences onboard. Mamsen’s, located in the explorer lounge is named for the matriarch of Viking’s founding family and serves traditional comfort food. The Aquavit Terrace, famous and popular among Viking river ships, takes to the seas with its al fresco dining menu. The buffet onboard is called the World Cafe and features an open kitchen design and guests can enjoy coffee or tea here around the clock. Guests can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and bite-sized eats at Wintergarden with live musical performances. On deck eight you will find the Pool Grill for waterside snacks like burgers and sandwiches. You can always order room service. It’s available 24 hours a day.
All of the dining venues onboard are included at no additional cost.
Inclusions
Viking prides itself on not nickel and diming its guests. They include all dining, tours in port, self-service laundry, spa access, wifi, and more. These services are available fleetwide.
