There is something new on the horizon. Something that could redefine the hierarchy of cruise lines. Right now there are several brands feverishly racing to be the first of a new tier of Luxury Superyachts promising to supplant the current reigning all-inclusive brands. Many notable names in hotels have already thrown their hat in the ring, but they all seem to be chasing a new contender with ties to a strong cruising pedigree. Explora Journeys, Explora I is set to sail in 2023. This is what we know so far.
The Design
Explora I will house 461 luxury residences, each boasting private ocean view terraces. The focus of the design was to create a maximum amount of space per guest as such, the ship is full of small nooks and hideaways for guests to enjoy in quiet comfort or with friends.
Explora I will have 1 to 1.25 guest-to-host ratio promising to provide exemplary personalized service to each of the 900 guests on the ship. The modern European design hopes to create a sense of place in the minds of each “resident” onboard. Explora I is going to be a guest’s home at sea.
The ship will showcase impressive green technology. Hybrid-ready energy solutions, advanced waste-management systems, and a lack of single-use plastics are just a few of the announced environmentally conscious features of the design.
The Public Spaces
The SuperYacht will have three outdoor pools and one indoor pool with a retractable glass ceiling. There will also be a total of 64 private cabanas and multiple hot tubs onboard. Again the designers have maximized the amount of personal space that guests will have to relax and soak in the sun.
The ship will offer guests 9 options for gourmet dining at sea. Each promises to serve unique entrees made from locally sourced ingredients from the destinations Explora I will visit. Onboard guests will have 10 bars and lounges to enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine.
There will be a large focus on fitness and wellness. Explora 1 will include a 700-square spa and wellness center. Additionally, there will be a 270-square foot, state-of-the-art fitness center.
The Residences
Explora I will host around 900 guests in 461 onboard residences. Water is the focal point so a major focus is to include floor-to-ceiling ocean views and private terraces for each chic accommodation. Explora tapped some of Europe’s most talented designers to create modern and stylish living spaces onboard. Explora I’s residences will include:

- 22 Ocean Residences
- 67 Ocean Penthouses
371 Ocean Terrace & Ocean Grand Terrace Suites
The smallest suite starts at 377-square feet making these residences some of the largest accommodations available. The emphasis on maximizing the square footage per guest ratio can be seen throughout the design of the ship.
